I love the American flag. When I’m at an event where the National Anthem is sung, I stand up, hand over my heart, and do my best to belt out the song. I used to be able to hit the high notes. Not so much anymore, but Old Glory has a special place in my heart.
Years ago, we installed a 20-foot flag pole in the front yard. The flag we had has gotten a bit tattered and faded and it’s time to retire her. There is a drop off box locally where I can respectfully let her go to be properly and honorably retired with all the honor she deserves as a symbol of this great nation.

I just bought a new flag. It’s 5’ x 8 ‘ and weather resistant and it is looking darn good on my flag pole. But…I have been feeling guilty because I didn’t have a good light to shine on it when the sun goes down. I’m rather lazy on occasion (okay, lazy most days) and I would rather shine the light on the Stars and Stripes than take my flag down every night. The porch light wasn’t adequate. I was embarrassed to disrespect flag protocol.
So, today I installed a solar light on the pole. I didn’t cuss too much (out loud) as I dropped tiny screws in the grass (one is still missing) and tried to figure out the non-existent directions, but so far so good. I’m still playing around with the best position to shine the light, but it’s nice to see Old Glory getting the respect she deserves.

We are tiptoeing into another interesting election season – let’s look at the flag and think about how amazing this country is and work together to keep it that way. God Bless America!
