Out and About

Okay, raise your hand if you have lived in the same area for a long time and never explored many of the local venues that have been right next door. I am guilty of that too. Funny how we don’t spend much time wandering around our neighborhoods but eagerly travel to other cities or countries.

I am intentionally being a local tourist and look forward to sharing my adventures with you.

If you have a favorite must-see, please let me know.

Learning Curve with Horses

Many of you know I decided to get back into riding last year.  I rode as a child, took lessons, got my picture taken on a pony, fell in love with horses, collected a bunch of the Breyer horse statues – remember them?   In college as an animal science major, I mucked out a lot…

RIP my sweet Hailee/Houdini 1/28/2026

She arrived at my home with treats and toys in October 2023.  She was a senior dog, 8 years old, but she was a Rhodesian Ridgeback and I always try to help the Ridgebacks find homes.

Butterflies at the Botanical Garden

The South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes, California, offers a serene escape with diverse landscapes, rose gardens, and a captivating butterfly exhibit called “SOAR.” Visitors can indulge in nature, take scenic photographs, and participate in community events. It’s an inspiring haven for gardeners and nature enthusiasts alike. A must-visit in the South Bay.

Birthday Fun – and Funny Girl

Although I don’t really like spending much time in downtown L.A. I have enjoyed the recently created theater group that one of our active Delta Gamma officers has been coordinating.  We have seen quite a few plays and musicals during the past year

A Horse…of Course!

I love horses. My love started back in 1971 when a photographer with a pony showed up on my parents’ front porch and I got a picture with the pony. I was hooked. I think I had a dozen of those Breyer horse statues. Remember them? Here’s one I had – Black Beauty.

Rose Parade

One of my favorite holiday traditions is watching the Rose Parade. The Parade officially starts when the Stealth Bomber blasts along the parade route. That is a catch-your breath moment.

Time to go to the Fair!

I realized a few months ago that I have lived in Los Angeles my entire 61 years and never made it to the L.A. County Fair.  Granted, I grew up and still live in the beach cities, and the Fair was oh so far away in Pomona, but you’d think I would have gone there…
